Day 19 of 40 · The Word

Sweeter Than Honey

Word

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Psalm 119:103

Daily Devotional

King David described God's Word as sweet like honey; Peter compared it to milk that satisfies a nursing baby. These metaphors teach us that God's Word nourishes our souls just as food nourishes our bodies. Just as we need food each day to strengthen our outer man, we need God's Word and to abide in Jesus to strengthen our inner man. And, because the Word of God is ‘living and active’, there is nothing else that can bring healing, comfort or guidance like it (Hebrews 4:12).

Scriptures for Today

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 119:103

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered, “It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. '”

1 Peter 1:22 - 2

.3 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
